    Flexible Working Arrangements usually mean:
  • Working a few days a week (e.g. 3 days per week)
  • Working flexible hours within a week (e.g. 18 hours over any 5 working days of a week)
  • The hours could be fixed (e.g. 9am – 12pm every day) OR they could be casually arranged with the employer (you can choose which hours to come in, as long as you fulfill 18 hours)
  • Sharing a job (2 people to do 1 role)
  • Working some hours from home and some hours in the office.
  • Freelance work which only requires you to commit to a certain project (Hours are usually negotiated with the employer on a project basis)
  • Contractual work that requires you to commit for a short period of time (usually no more than 2 months)

Under Singapore Ministry of Manpower’s (MOM) stipulation of Employment Standards for Part-time work:
  1. A part-time employee is one who is required under his/her contract of service with an employer, to work for less than 35 hours a week.
  2. Part-time employees (except managers, executives, domestic workers and seamen) are also covered under the Employment Act.
  3. Wages are set by market forces and should be determined by mutual agreement between the employees and their employers.

For Mothers who are not Singaporeans or PR, you will be required to hold a WORK PASS in order to be able to work part-time in Singapore. The work pass can be applied directly from Ministry of Manpower. Alternatively, you can find out more about Volunteering with some of non-profit organizations in Singapore.
